Spring-Planted Cover Crop Impact on Weed Suppression, Productivity, and Feed Quality of Forage Crops in Northern Kazakhstan

چکیده
Integrating cover crops into crop rotation could provide options for herbicide-resistant weed control in farming systems. To evaluate the potential effectiveness of spring-planted oats (Avena sativa L.) on suppression, productivity, and feed quality annual forage as sole intercrops order to determine best agroecological technique, two-year experiments were laid out under arid conditions Akmolinsk region northern Kazakhstan. Three crops, namely, (Piper) Stapf.-Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanense) (control), common millet (Panicum miliaceum L.), Japanese (Echinochloa frumentacea three intercropping systems, i.e., 50% pea (Pisum sativum + barley (Hordeum vulgare L.); 40% 30% Sudanense) Stapf.-sudan Sudanense), well six mentioned treatments with plus used. is a promising newly introduced It was revealed that significantly reduced density their intercrops. In all cases, integrating showed higher productivity than non-covered treatments. A highly productive grown without intercrop Sudan grass. Allelopathic Weed Suppression Through the Use of Cover Crops
There has long been observed an inhibitive response by plant species to certain neighboring plants. The Greek philosopher and botanist, Theophrastus, noted this effect from cabbage as early as 300 BC (Willis 1985). Since that time, others have documented similar plant interactions. In 1937, Austrian botanist, Hans Molisch, described this phenomenon as allelopathy, which he determined to be the ...

متن کاملImpact of integrated sheep grazing for cover crop termination on weed and ground beetle (Coleoptera:Carabidae) communities
Cover crops are a suite of non-marketable plant species grown to improve soil quality. They may have additional benefits including reduced weed pressure and enhanced habitat for beneficial arthropods, but they do not provide direct revenue. Integrating sheep grazing for cover crop termination could make the use of cover crops more economically feasible. However, if grazing shifts biological com...
متن کاملDeveloping heterotic groups for hybrid breeding in crop plants with emphasizing on forage crops
Exploitation of heterosis in hybrid breeding and development of synthetic cultivars is an essential procedure in plant breeding programs. The main goal of hybrid breeding programs is to select desirable parental genotypes to maximize the expression of heterosis. However, since development of high yielding hybrids and synthetic cultivars are costly and time-consuming, the accurate prediction of ...
